12th November Draw at Eastbourne

Sunday we travelled to Eastbourne Town Yellow with an injury ravaged side, having only eleven players. The boys battled hard to take a deserved two nil lead with well taken goals by George & Dan. We dominated most of the game and really should have been out of sight if we had taken more of the chances we had created. Unfortunately this was the day when we got pegged back after not finishing those opportunities. Eastbourne had a couple of clear chances and to their credit buried them both. The result makes the league match away at Whitehawk next Sunday an interesting fixtue to say the least! Let's get the sick bay emptied boys!!

7th November Eastbourne away this Sunday

We are away to Eastbourne yellow this Sunday Borough Lane Dental Grounds. 9.30 meet, for 10.30 K.O. white kit.

21st October WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE!

Yesterday we went top of the league with a 1-0 win away at Shoreham. The boys battled hard against a well organised Shoreham side and a one-sided ref. A well struck shot by Tom P and a fumble by the keeper was enough to win the game as we maintained a 100% start to the season. Injuries to Lago, Callaby & Fugl tarnished the day as they added to the sick bay!!

LADIES NIGHT OUT

This week we are away to Shoreham Youth on their County Ground Middle Road. White kit, 1pm meet for 2 o'clock kick off.

8th October League action this week

This Sunday we play recently promoted Southern Rangers at home in the league. Another good performance will see us maintain our unbeaten run so far this season. Claret & Blue kit, 1pm meet for a 2pm kick off.

30th September

The boys were back in Town!!!

The Southdown of last year emerged in emphatic fashion today as they demolished Eastbourne Town 4-1 and knock them out of the League Cup. Some excellent saves from the Eastbourne keeper and near misses from Southdown kept the score sensible as they created over 20 opportunites to score during the 80 minutes. Andy Hall scored the pick of the goals with a wonder strike from 25 yards! Welcome back boys you were fantastic today!

28th September

23rd September

Two more games, two more wins! Still not buzzing yet!

Today we played newly promoted Patcham United who won the league below last season. Playing at Waterhall on a poor surface the boys never really got going against a team that all seemed to run after the ball at once! A three nil scoreline did not show a true reflection as we again failed to capitalise n so many missed opportunities.

Wednesday night we travelled to Hove Rivervale for a 5.30 kick off! High winds hampered the game and both sides. Hove took an early lead from a long throw-in aided by the wind and an out stretched leg to steer past Josh. The team reacted really well after that playing some excellent football against the wind, they were rewarded with a well taken equaliser. The game should really have been completely out of reach by half time as we squandered chance after chance. The second half was all about not taking chances again and a strike by Callaby was enough to win the match by the narrow coreline. Hove were always still in the game at 2-1, especially in the windy conditions!

Fixtures for the next month added in matches section.

17th September

First game of the season!

The boys notched up their first win of the season in an entertaining game against Eastbourne (green) yesterday. The game was entertaining as the boys struggled to find some early season form against a very spirited Eastbourne side, who after going in at half time one nil down, came out and scored two very quick goals to turn the match on it's head. Southdown did respond well and after a couple of positional changes leveled the match and still had enough to go on and find a winner!

29th August

High five!

As you can see I have been completing the players profiles for the website. If you have not completed one yet please do so and give it to me as soon as possible.

A five nil win on Wednesday against Southdown Athletic saw the boys continue an unbeaten pre-season run. Although I did not see the game Tony informs me that we also created over 20 goal scoring opportunities!!! This Sunday we play Marle Place at Leylands Park.

27th August

Athletic this Wednesday

This Wednesday we take on Southdown Athletic at Leylands Park in our first full pre-season friendly. Kick off 6.30 meet time 5.30-45.

Pre-season tournament winners

This weekend we hosted our annual 11 a-side tournament at Leylands Park. In blistering heat five teams battled it out for the honours in a round robin tournament with the top two sides competing for the winners and runners up trophies plus a 3rd & 4th place play off for the plate. Southdown & Oakwood were the top two sides and decided not to play each other in the league game due to the heat. They went straight into the final with Southdown dominating the match and running out 2-0 winners and retaining the trophy again. The third & 4th place play off was one by Thistle Youth from Worthing as they beat Marle Place 1-0 in a very tight game.

30th May

Returning from Somerset tour as runners up.

A copy of the press release for this weeks Middy

Southdown Rovers were crowned Sussex Sunday League Champions a fortnight ago and are the first Southdown side ever to do so. After an incredible season the team went unbeaten the whole season to win the league with 18 games played, 17 victories and 1 draw! They scored 79 league goals and only conceded 11. “This really is a magnificent achievement by a young group of players at u14’s” said Lee Brace the clubs coach. “The boys have a tremendous attitude as a team and apply excellent application to their games, this is the most competitive league in the region and to go undefeated is amazing. Over the last three seasons the team has played 82 competitive fixtures and have been undefeated in 76 of them! Out of the 6 games they have lost, only two have been in the league and the rest have come in three cup finals and one semi-final of the County Cup.”

The boys are going to enter this years team of the year organised by Bright FM and we wish them all the very best.

Over the Bank Holiday weekend Southdown Rovers u14’s went on their end of season tour to Brean Sands in Somerset. The newly crowned Sussex Sunday Champions were part of a two league set up with the winners of each league playing each other in the final. There were teams there from all over the country. Southdown won their league without losing a game as did their finalist opponents. In cold wet conditions the final was very evenly contested and was only ever going to be won by the odd goal. Southdown unfortunately lost won nil in the end conceding from a well placed set piece.

Tony Cascarino was guest of honour at the presentation evening and all the players received their medals from him.

Pictured above from left to right:- Back row. Dan Cummins, Tom Davess, Lee Bristow, Tom Pinnock, Andy Hall, Luke Brace, Matt Lago, Adam Bates, Tom Tyler. Front row. 22nd May

Countdown to the tour!

Boys, just a quick reminder to pack all of your Southdown kit. Both kits, training tops, tracksuits, shin pads, F/G & S/G boots, rain jacket etc....    Look forward to seeing you all on Friday. Safe travels!

8th May

Iron Man

Another date for your diary is Wednesday 16th for the Iron Man. Meet at Leylands Park 6pm. In the meantime we look forward to seeing you all on Saturday evening.

A time for reflection.

I am sure you will all agree that that this season has been fantastic to watch the boys play some thoroughly entertaining football at such a young age. The boys deserve all that they have achieved this season. Congratulations to them all and for your kind support. Below are some stats to consider from the season.

Played 29 competitive games scored 131 & conceeded only 20!

The league

The boys achieved an amazing 17 wins and 1 draw in the league this year, remaining unbeaten to win the title by an amazing seven points! Played 18  Scored 79  Conceeded 11

League Cup

Second year we have made the final only to be defeated by a single goal to Withdean in a game we dominated! Surely next year we can nail this one! Played 5  Scored 20  Conceeded 5

County Cup

Semi-finalists this year after winning this competition last season. Knocked out of the competition after extra time in a game that should never have gone beyond half time due to adverse weather conditions and loss of our goalkeeper due to this! Played 6  Scored 32  Conceeded 4

4th May

Unbeaten in the league!

An excellent 3-1 win over Withdean last night meant that the boys went unbeaten in the league this season. An excellent achievement boys, congratulations. The game last night had a strange feel to it as there was no noise or instructions being given from the bench. It was decided in the changing rooms before the game that the coaching staff would not give instructions from the bench in order for the boys to communicate between themselves during the game. The boys showed fantastic character to come from one nil down in a game they dominated from start to finish.

3rd May

Another league victory!

Another away win at Three Bridges by two goals to nil maintained our unbeaten run right thru to the last game of the season. Will we be able to beat Withdean to stay undefeated in the league??

Tonight's game versus Withdean is 6.30 k.o, meet 5.30-45, blue & claret kit, Burgess Hill FC.

30th April

Champions..Champions..Champions..Champions....!

Congratulations boys on winning the league. A won nil win was enough to seal the title with two games left in hand, it couldn't have been tougher either, an awfull pitch against Hove Rivervale who were fighting to stay in the league! A wonder strike by Tom Davess was a worthy to win any important game.

Wednesday we are away to Three Bridges, 6.30 K.O, meet 5.30-45 same ground as last time.

27th April

4-1 win over Lewes puts us top of the tree!

We went top of the table last night with the win over Lewes. Just three more points required to become Sussex League Champions!

Hove Rivervale are next on the agenda on Sunday. The game is scheduled for a 10.30 kick off at Waterhall in Brighton. Blue & claret kit 9.30 meet.

23rd April

Nearly there!

The boys took a step closer to becoming League champions with an excellent win over closest league challengers Whitehawk a brace for Andy Hall was enough to win the game and take all three points.

Thursday's game is now against Lewes Bridge View meet time 5.30 for a 6.30 k.o. Blue & claret kit. match report

20th April

Good home win against Polegate & Whitehawk this Sunday

An excellent performance on Wednesday from the boys to beat Polegate by three goals to nil. The boys were back to their best passing the ball well all over the pitch.

This Sunday we welcome Whitehawk to Leylands Park as we look to complete our remaining league fixtures. The kick off is 11am, meet time 10am, blue & claret kit.

16th April

Polegate at home Wednesday.

Wednesday we play Polegate Grasshoppers at Leylands Park. 6.30 KO, meet 5.30-45, claret kit.

16th April

Another win in the countdown to be League champions.

The boys came back from two nil down at half time to beat a spirited Pheonix side in Littlehampton yesterday. Pheonix took a two goal lead into the break after two defensive erras. The boys emerged after half time and set about making amends for a poor first half display. The league title remains a realistic goal if we maintain our unbeaten status in our remaining matches.

12th April

There will be training on Friday at Leylands Park 6.30.

Sunday we are away to Pheonix Youth 2.30pm KO, meet time 1.30-11.45, white kit. Pheonix play in Southfield Rd, Littlehampton. click on link for map. http://routeplanner.rac.co.uk

6th April

Victory over Withdean in the league.

After a frustrating first half and going a goal behind the boys went on to beat Withdean 3-1 under lights at leylands Park last night. The result sees us remain unbeaten in the league as we push for the league title.

2nd April

Two more midweek fixtures for the diary!

Tuesday 10th Lewes Bridge View (H) time tbc   CANCELLED

Wednesday 18th Polegate Grasshoppers (H) time tbc

1st April

Boys was that your idea of an April Fools joke on us coaches!!

The boys thought it quite funny as we queried the crazy two goal lead we gave to Lewes today! The first goal was awarded for a penalty for handball and then a quick wind assisted break saw Lewes take a shock two nil lead after twenty minutes. Goals from Hola and Brace sent us in level at the break. Seven second half goals including four from Pament saw Southdown return to their fast flowing football that has eluded them over the last couple of weeks. Great come back boys! Final score Lewes 2  Southdown 9

This Thursday we play Withdean at Burgess Hill FC. Meet 6.15pm, claret & blue kit, Kick off 7.15pm.

26th March

26th March

Cup final defeat!

The boys walked off the Peacehaven pitch devastated on Sunday as they failed to win the League Cup for the second consecutive season. After dominating the game from start to finish The boys were defeated by a single goal from a free kick assisted by the wind. As hard as the boys tried they could not manage to pull back an equaliser against a dogged Withdean defence. We now must concentrate on the remaining league games to ensure we win the title. Unlucky boys.

TONY HAS ASKED ME TO REMIND ALL PARENTS THAT THE REMAINING TOUR MONIES NEED TO BE PAID BY THIS FRIDAY PLEASE.

21st March

League Cup final this weekend

This weekend we look to complete the first part of a league and cup double as we take on Withdean Youth in the League Cup Final. Good luck to the boys we know you will give it your best. Claret & blue kit, meet at Peacehaven FC at 11am for a 12 o'clock ko.

19th March

A below par performance on Sunday was still enough to run out two nil winners against Shoreham who always were in the game at one nil. The second goal was a long time coming into the second half before we could relax a little. Another trip to hospital for one of the boys in an ambulance! Two in three games!! No more please.

14th March

League game this weekend

Home to Shoreham this Sunday. We will be playing on the main Burgess Hill pitch 2pm kick off, claret & blue kit, meet 1pm.

11th March

League Cup final!

The boys got back to winning ways again today as they beat Eastbourne Borough for the fourth time this season. A 7-2 win was a convincing result as we booked our place in the League Cup final against Withdean Youth later this month. Poor Eastbourne must be sick of us this season!!

9th March

Another semi-final this weekend!

Sunday we play Eastbourne Borough as we look to secure a cup final place in this seasons League Cup. Last year we lost the final in a penalty shoot out. It would be good to go one better this season. The game is sheduled for a 2pm kick off, meet time 1pm @ Leylands Park, Blue & claret kit.

6th March

County Cup exit after extra time!

Sunday was a sad day as we lost out on another County Cup final appearance. The boys played their part in a lottery of a semi-final as the rain poured down from start to finnish on Sunday. Oakwood ran out eventual 2-3 winners after extra time. Two poor decissions from the officials seemed to be our undoing in the end. We were only three minutes away from winning the game in normal time when the linesman awarded Oakwood a goal kick from the most blatant corner kick you ever did see. This was quickly taken whilst our players were still tracking back and a defensive mix up led to their last gasp equaliser to force the game into extra time. It was questionable if the game should have even got that far anyway as the ball was clearly not running over the pitch surface. The game was one on the other contrevesal decission when a free kick was taken a good 10 to 15 yards further ahead of where the offence took place. The ball was launched straight at into the goal mouth and was toe poked past Kieran who was our stand in keeper after loosing Simon in the first half with a head injury.

27th February

County Cup semi-final this weekend!

This Sunday we entertain Oakwood Youth from the Tandridge League in the semi-final of the County Cup. We are scheduled to play on the main Burgess Hill pitch at 10.30. Meet time 9.30 claret & blue kit.

13th February

4th February

Excellent away win!

An excellent performance from the boys saw us take all three points away from Eastbourne today as we ran out four nil winners. This is the forst time Eastbourne have been beaten at home this season and the boys played really well to dominate the game from start to finish on a horrible, sticky sloping pitch. Still undefeated in the league this season. Well done again boys.

1st February

Sunday we are away to Eastbourne Borough in the league. 10.30ko meet 9.30, white kit. The venue is Bishop Bell School, Priory Road, Langney, Eastbourne.

28th January

Another semi-final!

A fantastic performance from the boys saw them brush Eastbourne Borough aside in their quest to retain the County Cup. Eastbourne started extremely brightly taking a tenth minute lead and would have been further ahead but for some fantastic goalkeeping from Simon. The boys settled down after the goal and were level five minutes later from a set piece. A second goal before half time saw the boys take a the lead and from then there was no looking back. A final scoreline of 7-2 showed excellent character from the boys. Well done.

22nd January

In the draw for the semi-final of the League Cup

Crowborough Rep-side swept aside in a friendly

Last night the boys swept the Crowborough rep-side away with a clinical team performance in a game that the boys played some superb controlled football. It really was a fantastic display of football at times, as the boys played neat passing and good movement all over the pitch. Even when the boys did not have the ball their work rate and closing down of the opposition was excellent. This was a good result against a side made up of the elite players from the Crowborough & District League. Congratulations boys, most impressive!

Final result:  Southdown 3 Crowborough Rep-side 0

Our great start to the season continued with a 6 nil win away to Pevensy & Westham on Sunday. The boys passed their way around a well organised Pevensey side that never gave up. The stats this season are quite impressive, so far after four games we have scored 30 goals with none conceeded. Keep up the good work boys. match report

Great start to new season.

A warm sunny morning on the south coast saw a great curtain raiser to the start of the new 06/07 season. A new look and strong Shoreham side provided a good test for last years County Cup winners. Southdown emerged 4-0 victors at the final whistle. click here for full match report

Pre-season ends on a high.

Pre-season ended on a high last night as the boys beat Oakwood Youth 7-0 at Leylands Park. Oakwood were a strong side that gave the boys something differnt to think about with a well organised hardworking side. The game was fairly tight all the way up to half time as the boys went in at the break with a slender one nil lead.

In the second half the boys started very quickly with three goals within ten minutes, that all but killed the game. The game then became very comfortable and a higher scoreline was inevitable. The season starts for real on Sunday and hopefully the boys can continue with their great pre-season form into the league.

Seven Up!

An excellent performance from the boys last night as they brushed aside their close neighbours Marle Place. The 7-1 scoreline was no way flattering as the boys dominated the match from start to finish. Marle Place provided a battling performance and played their part in an entertaining game. Unfortunately for them they could not cope with the boys excellent passing and quick movement.

The season looks to be very exciting if the players play football to that standard. Congratulations to you all for a thoroughly entertaining display of football. Next up in the last pre-season game, Oakwood Youth Thursday evenning 5.30 meet 6.15 K.O.

Another pre-season win.

The boys welcomed Hassocks u15's to Leylands Park for a pre-season friendly today and ran out eventual 3-2 winners against a team one year older than them. It was good to see the boys cope with a big side and not be intimidated or out muscled off the ball. The boys dominated the match in spells and controlled the game with good movement and passing frrotball.

Hat-rick of Southdown tournament wins!

The boys successfuly defended their home tournament trophy on Saturday making it a hat-trick of wins over the last three years. The pre-season tournament was a great success as the boys won their group stages with wins against Marle Place, Thistle Youth and Southdown Athletic.

The semi-final saw the boys drawn against Eastbourne Borough and they booked their place in the final with a 4-0 win. Ifield Edwards awaited the boys in the final and were not strong enough to stop the boys running out 3-1 winners to retain the trophy.
